January 1, 2026 — In a blunt and unapologetic interview on Fox News’ Hannity, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a clear-eyed warning about the ongoing global threat posed by radical Islam — and he didn’t mince words.
Recently confirmed by the Senate and sworn in as America’s top diplomat, Rubio emphasized that radical Islamic movements are not satisfied with limited power or regional control. Their ideology, he warned, is inherently revolutionary and expansionist.
“Radical Islam has shown that their desire is not simply to occupy one part of the world and be happy with their own little caliphate; they want to expand. It’s revolutionary in its nature. It seeks to expand and control more territories and more people.
That’s a clear and imminent threat to the world and to the broader West — but especially the United States, which they identify as the chief source of evil on the planet.”
Rubio underscored that these extremist groups openly and explicitly target the West, with the United States at the top of their list. He noted their willingness to employ terrorism, assassinations, and even state-sponsored violence — pointing to Iran as a prime example — in pursuit of cultural and political domination.
He also referenced the troubling reality that many domestic terrorist attacks in the U.S. have been inspired by radical Islamic ideology, citing cases such as the Pulse nightclub attack in Orlando.
These remarks come as the Trump administration advances tougher measures, including visa restrictions targeting individuals and entities involved in funding or carrying out violence against Christians in countries like Nigeria.
At a time when many leaders avoid uncomfortable realities, Rubio’s direct assessment stands out. An America First foreign policy, he argues, begins with clearly identifying real threats — and radical Islam remains one of the most serious.
